The Loop Pavilion was conceived as an ephemeral landmark for the South African Summer Arts Festival — a structure that invites movement, curiosity, and pause. The design begins with a pure circle, a universal form of unity and flow.

Through the layering of vertical timber fins, the circle is stretched into a looping pathway, allowing visitors to walk, rest, and view performances from multiple vantage points. Transparency shifts with every step — from openness to intimacy — creating a rhythm of discovery.

Sustainability guided the entire process. Locally sourced timber was chosen not only for its warmth and tactility, but also for its low embodied energy and ability to return to the earth after the festival’s conclusion.
